For the Super Duty® Pickup, it runs through the steel foundation of the proven, durable frame designed to easily handle the everyday rigors of heavy hauling and towing. It’s evident also in the available Ford-built 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8 that endured more abuse during its long, torturous testing than you could ever subject it to. And there’s the 6-speed Ford TorqShift® automatic transmission engineered for high-torque performance and dependability. If you demand a truck that’ll get the job done today and be there for you over the long haul, look no further than the Ford Super Duty.
Ford engineers put the available 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8 through exhaustive durability testing of a quarter-million miles under some mighty tough conditions. Because a durable engine is one you can count on to be dependable.
The available 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8, with higher power ratings for 2016, is Ford-built from the ground up to up to deliver 860 lb.-ft. of torque and best-in-class 440 horsepower, plus best-in-class fuel economy** and quiet operation.
The Super Duty® frame is the foundation of its Built Ford Tough®capability, designed to help minimize flexing and twisting while maximizing strength and torsional stiffness. It’s constructed of fully boxed front rails, 6.7-mm-thick C-channel rails and crossmembers, plus additional gussets providing durability in high-stress areas. Section modulus is 6.7 cu. in.* Yield strength is 36,000 psi.
Fireman Matt Gehman needs a truck that can take it. And carry it. He uses a ton of specialized equipment, water and a heavy-duty pump. That’s why the Eastern Berks Fire Department chose Super Duty®. The 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel engine has undergone more than 10 million miles of cumulative testing. It kicks out an awesome 860 lb.-ft. of torque and best-in-class 440 horsepower.* Plus it offers excellent fuel efficiency to go with all that power.* The frame is designed to help minimize flexing and twisting while maximizing strength and torsional stiffness. It’s constructed of fully boxed front rails, 6.7-mm-thick C-channel rails and crossmembers, plus additional gussets providing durability in high-stress areas. So it’s no surprise that Super Duty has an unsurpassed max of 14,000-lb. GVWR (compared to Chevy Silverado 3500HD’s maximum 13,500-lb. GVWR).
In addition to front airbags, Super Duty® provides front side-impact airbags and the Safety Canopy® System with its state-of-the-art roll-fold technology. Six airbags* are standard in every Super Duty.
Traction control on Super Duty® dual-rear-wheel models uses the engine to limit wheelspin by reducing engine throttle output. It’s a smarter way to help you stay in control, even when the elements are out of control.
The available Tough Bed® is a unique factory-installed spray-in bedliner using a precision high-pressure automated sprayer, not a hand sprayer, to help ensure a smooth, even and durable coat. Tough Bed provides a watertight seal and helps resist rust. The option includes a tailgate guard, black bed tie-down hooks and black bed attachment bolts.
Super Duty® single-rear-wheel pickups come equipped with standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®). This system uses a combination of reduced engine power and selective wheel braking. Corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an object and AdvanceTrac will automatically engage to help you keep your vehicle under control. 39
The Ford Super Duty® handles every task you ask of it every workday – and does it all with the dependability you expect. You can say it’s one member of the crew that can wear a lot of different hard hats. The Super Duty performs the tough work of hauling and towing with the smart technology of AdvanceTrac® with RSC® and trailer sway control. And at the purely mechanical end, there’s the available class-exclusive* tailgate step that shows how Ford designers literally thought outside the box to make your job as easy as possible.
Delivering huge towing capability didn’t satisfy the Ford engineers who worked to make the 2016 Super Duty® not just more capable, but the best in its class.
F-350 dual-rear-wheel 4x4s offer a new High-Capacity Trailer Tow Package with features such as a wide-track front axle, the same that’s standard on the F-450, the heftiest Super Duty Pickup.
Speaking of the F-450 – that’s where the big new is. Ford engineers have made this Crew Cab 4x4 dually workhorse even more formidable. They’ve beefed up the suspension, tires and towing gear – and put under the hood a standard 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel that generates 860 lb.-ft. of torque and best-in-class 440 horsepower 440 horsepower and 860 lb.-ft. of torque.* The results: a best-in-class 31,200 lbs. of maximum towing capability and a best-in-class 40,400-lb. gross combination weight rating (GCWR).*
Trailer sway control (TSC) builds on the AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™(RSC®) system to help maintain trailer control through selective braking and adjusted engine power.39 The result is noticeable stability and control, which provides greater driver confidence when towing large loads.
With the 5th-Wheel/Gooseneck Trailer Tow Prep Package, you can use a 5th-wheel hitch or a gooseneck ball to tow the really big loads. This package, available on 6-3/4-ft. and 8-ft. pickup boxes, offers you the strength of a factory-installed 5th wheel and gooseneck substructure attached to the frame and maintains a flat cargo load floor. This patented system is covered by the Ford limited warranty* and is compatible with 5th-Wheel Hitch Kits (18K and 26.5K available) and Gooseneck Hitch Kits offered through the factory and Ford Custom Accessories.
The available Power Stroke® 6.7L Turbo Diesel V8 with 6-speed TorqShift® SelectShift® automatic transmission and tow/haul mode utilizes seamless engine-exhaust braking and selective gearing to improve control on steep downhill grades and minimize brake wear. When driver-activated at the push of a button, the engine’s back pressure is automatically adjusted, and the transmission holds a specific gear (depending on grade) to help slow the vehicle. For 2016, the new, larger turbocharger provides even more braking power. This is a feature you’ll really appreciate when you need extra control while coming down that seven percent grade.
When you’re crawling up a steep hill, the standard Hill Start Assist feature automatically holds the brake on an incline to help prevent backward roll when switching your foot from the brake to the gas. This is especially helpful when towing big loads. Conversely, when going downhill you need the Hill Descent Control,™ included on single-rear-wheel pickups with the FX4 Off-Road Package. To activate it, push the Hill Descent Control button, press the brake once to set the desired speed and hold the steering wheel. Then the system applies brake pressure as needed to descend grades at a controlled speed.
Work is hardly ever in a perfect location. What starts as a level patch of dirt usually turns into a rutted mud pit. But that’s where the available electronic-locking rear differential goes to work. It locks the rear axle completely to maximize traction at both wheels simultaneously, providing excellent off-road traction in either 4x2 or 4x4 mode. What’s more, you activate the system at the touch of a switch without having to get out of the cab.
Super Duty® has the first factory-installed, fully integrated trailer brake controller (TBC) available in a full-size pickup, so there are no installation hassles or aftermarket worries. Integrated with the ABS and trailer sway control, TBC synchronizes vehicle and trailer brakes for seamless braking, even with the heaviest loads. The Ford TBC offers the advantage of verified compatibility with trailers (one to four axles) utilizing electrically actuated drum brakes and certain electric-over-hydraulic (EOH) actuated drum or disc system.
